Kigga’s Call

Kigga’s Call

As we stepped onto the sun-baked shores of Kigga Landing Site, the vibrant sounds and smells of a bustling fishing community enveloped us. But beneath the surface of this thriving village, we discovered a tale of struggle and resilience.

Our journey took us through the narrow, winding paths of the village, where fishermen expertly repaired their nets and prepared for another day on the lake. We saw the fish, freshly caught and gleaming in the morning sun, but also witnessed the heartbreaking sight of spoilage. Fish, once a prized catch, now lay rotting on the ground, a victim of poor post-harvest handling methods.

The current fish drying method, relying on the open sun, was a far cry from the efficient and sanitary practices we had seen elsewhere. The fish, exposed to the elements, was prone to contamination, and the drying process was slow and laborious. We watched as the fishermen carefully arranged the fish on wooden racks, hoping that the sun would do its job, but knowing that the outcome was far from certain.

As the day wore on, we noticed the limited solar lighting that illuminated the village. The lights, powered by small solar panels, cast a faint glow over the village, but we were told by the residents, shut off promptly at 8 pm, plunging the community into darkness. We spoke to the villagers, who shared their concerns about security, and the fear that gripped them as they navigated the dark paths at night.

It was clear that Kigga Landing Site was facing significant development challenges, and that the absence of electricity was a major obstacle to progress. But as we looked out at the lake, teeming with fish, and the villagers, eager to improve their lives, we knew that there was hope. We saw an opportunity to harness the power of the sun, to provide reliable energy, and to transform the lives of the people of Kigga Landing Site.

As we prepared to leave, the villagers approached us, their eyes filled with a mix of desperation and determination. They asked us for help, for a solution to the challenges that had held them back for so long. We knew that we had a responsibility to act, to find a way to bring light, power, and prosperity to this vibrant community. And so, our journey began, a journey to find a solution, to bring hope, and to empower the people of Kigga Landing Site.
